Push The Boat Out

Background

Push the Boat Out (PTBO) is an RYA initiative aimed at anyone interested in getting into a boat and out on the water. Each year there is a series of Open Days and Try Sailing opportunities run by RYA Affiliated Clubs and Training Centres. These are aimed at complete beginners as well as more experienced sailors looking for a way back into the sport or interested in finding out more about their local club. Families, children, partners, individuals, groups of friends – everyone is welcome.

By taking part, Seafarers Sailing Club can benefit from a national campaign run by the RYA to help generate awareness of the Club, provide a service to the local community and encourage membership. In the six years that PTBO has been running in its current format:

  • Over 120,000 people have attended a PTBO event with over 88,000 people getting out on the water.
  • Over 8,000 individuals have signed up for club memberships as a result of PTBO.
  • Nearly 6,000 families have joined sailing clubs after getting hooked at PTBO events.

In 2019, PTBO is taking place throughout May.

Seafarers Sailing Club

Seafarers is running its PTBO event on the afternoon of Sunday 19th May. The Club is providing approximately 48 places in a variety of dinghies including Club boats (Laser Stratos and RS Venture) supplemented by members boats (eg Wayfarer, Wanderer, Vision) each with an experienced helm aboard. All ages and abilities will be catered for although, unfortunately, the Club cannot currently offer sailing to people with mobility difficulties. Each guest will spend approximately 45 minutes afloat in one of the following sessions; 1pm to 1:45pm, 2pm to 2:45pm, 3pm to 3:45pm and 4pm to 4:45pm.

Guests - Book a Place

To book your free place(s) at Seafarers' PTBO event, go to our booking page by clicking here or select the button marked PTBO Booking to the right. In addition to providing suitable clothing and footwear as outlined on the booking page, a towel might be useful as we have showering facilities. Tea, coffee and soft drinks are also available at a very modest price.

Members - Volunteer to Help

Volunteers are required to act as Shore Coordinator, Dinghy Helm, Patrol Boat Helm, Patrol Boat Crew, Beach Crew and Shore cCrew. If you are available, please go to the Duty Roster (you must first Login), scroll to Sunday 19th May and click on the appropriate Volunteer button.

If you have any questions or would like to offer the use of your dinghy for the event, contact Dave, our Chief Instructor (Sailing).
