Ladies & Handicap Series and Novices & Cadets Series » Ladies & Handicap and Novices & Cadets 4

14th July 2019, 11:00 - 12:30

In response to feedback from members, a number of innovations have been introduced into the 2019 programme. This includes moving Ladies out of the LNC (Ladies, Novices & Cadets) Series and into the Handicap Series. It is hoped that this will provide the Ladies with a more challenging course and help encourage Novices and Cadets into racing.

In accordance with the Sailing Instructions (SI), both the Handicap & Ladies Series and the Novices & Cadets Series comprise one fleet, average lap races. Novices are defined as those competitors who are inexperienced at dinghy racing. The status of Novice is at the discretion of the committee.

The SI also state "A minimum of three boats is required for a valid race". This means that, for example, three boats helmed by two Handicap competitors and one Lady competitor would be sufficient entry for a valid H&L race. Similarly, one Cadet and two Novices would provide a valid N&C race.

The class flag for the Handicap & Ladies races will be flag Oscar (Fast Fleet flag). The class flag for the Novices & Cadets will be flag Delta (Slow Fleet flag)? For a reminder of what these look like, see paragraph 6.2.9 of the OOD Guide within the Duty Crew Guides.
