Big Spring Beach Clean

7th March 2020, 10:00 - 12:00

The Big Spring Beach Clean is the largest and most effective volunteer beach cleaning project in the UK. The event is co-ordinated by volunteers for Surfers Against Sewage. Since 2010 over 120,271 volunteers have taken part at over 2,578 events across the UK.

Seafarers Sailing Club is keen to continue supporting this initiative. Our beach at Hill Head may appear quite clean but during last year's Big Spring Beach Clean we helped collect a total of 35kg of all types of rubbish; almost 15kg of this was plastic. Also removed from our beach were 3 syringes, a scaffold post and a car wheel!

If you would like to take part in the 2020 Big Spring Beach Clean, meet at the gazebo set up outside the gates to Seafarers' compound in Salterns Car Park on Saturday 7th March. The event begins at 10am and ends at midday. You can bring your family, your dog, your friend or just your enthusiasm and become part of the Big Spring Beach Clean family! All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please wear suitable clothing for the weather and ensure that protective gloves are worn during the beach clean.

Free tea and coffee will be available to all participants (not just Club members) at the Seafarers clubhouse from 10am until midday. If you would be willing to help with this, please contact Debbie Woolnough.
